So I finally gave in and downloaded the Sam's Club: Shopping & Savings app from Google Play after my neighbor kept bragging about her bulk deals. This app is basically the mobile companion for the physical wholesale warehouse, but honestly, it's way more useful than I expected. It launched a few years back and has been steadily updated, available on both Google Play and App Store. From what I saw on the Google Play listing, it's clocked over 10 million installs, which makes sense since so many people use it. The app itself is free to download and install, though you absolutely need a membership to log in and actually buy stuff. There's no way around that registration wall. Inside the app, you'll find in-app purchases technically, because you're buying real products, and yes, there are ads for other Sam's Club services and promotions.

Using this app is pretty straightforward once you get past the sign-in. You browse through categories, search for items, and add them to your cart just like any shopping app. My big tip is to use the scan & go feature at the store. You scan barcodes with your phone camera as you shop, pay through the app, and just show the digital receipt at the exit. It saves so much time avoiding those long checkout lines. Another tip is to set alerts for items you keep restocking, because the app will notify you when they go on sale.

Compared to apps like Costco's or BJ's Wholesale, I chose this one because the user interface feels cleaner and less cluttered. Both Costco and BJ's have similar functions, but Sam's Club app integrates scan & go much smoother, and the delivery options seem faster in my area. Plus, the app actually remembers my past purchases better, so reordering is a one-click thing. It just works for my regular shopping habits.

Cons

• ➖ Need a membership to use anything - Unlike some retail apps that let you browse or see prices without logging in, Sam's Club app locks you out completely until you pay for a membership. It's frustrating if you're just curious.
• ➖ The app can be slow to load the first time - On my older phone, opening the app for the first time in the morning takes a good 15 seconds, whereas Costco's app loads faster on the same device.
• ➖ Coupon clipping is clunky - You have to manually "clip" digital coupons in the app before buying, and sometimes you forget. BJ's app auto-applies most coupons, which is more convenient.
• ➖ No price comparison with other stores - The app only shows Sam's Club prices, so you can't quickly check if Costco or Target has a better deal on the same item. I wish they'd add that.
