Idol Prank Video Call & Chat, developed by 84devs Studio, is a fun simulation app that lets you pretend you're on a video call with your favorite celebrity or fictional character. It's basically a prank tool – you can set up a fake incoming call screen, have a scripted "conversation" with your chosen idol, and record the whole thing to mess with your friends or family. The app first launched back in 2020 and has been available on the Google Play store ever since. It's also on the Apple App Store for iOS users. Last I checked, it had over 10 million downloads on Google Play alone, which tells you how popular this kind of gag is. Best of all, it's completely free to download and install, and you don't even need to register an account to start using it. The app does have in-app purchases – you can buy premium idol packs or remove ads – and yes, there are occasional banner ads, but they're not too intrusive.
Using the app is pretty straightforward. Once you install it, you pick an idol from the available list, create a fake contact name, and then either schedule a "call" or trigger it instantly. The app simulates a real video call interface with all the usual buttons – mute, camera flip, and end call. One tip is to use the voice changer feature if you want to make the prank even more convincing. Also, you should enable the vibration and ringtone options so the fake call feels as real as possible. If you're planning to prank someone, make sure your phone's brightness is set high and the volume is up – that way, the video call screen looks legit. Another handy trick is to pre-record your own reaction or dialogue so the call feels interactive.
I've tried a few similar apps, like Fake Call U and Prank Call Simulator, but I always come back to Idol Prank Video Call & Chat. The main reason is the video aspect – most other apps only offer audio calls or static images. Here, the idols actually move and speak, which makes the prank way more believable. The graphics are surprisingly polished, and the app is updated regularly with new idols. Plus, the download size is small, so it doesn't take up much space on my phone. It's just a shame the free version only gives you access to a limited number of characters.
Features
- 🎥 Realistic Video Simulation – Unlike apps like Fake Call U, this one actually shows a animated video feed of the idol, complete with lip-synced audio. It feels like a real video call, not a static image trick.
- 🗣️ Voice Changer Built-In – This is a big one. You can alter your own voice during the "call" to sound like a fan, a reporter, or even a robot. Most similar apps don't offer this in-app; they make you use a separate voice changer.
- 📲 Multiple Call Scenarios – You can choose from pre-loaded scripts like "fan meeting" or "emergency call". The idol reacts differently depending on the scenario, which keeps the prank fresh. Other apps just play a generic recording.
Pros
- 🚀 Huge Idol Library – Compared to Prank Call Simulator, which has maybe 5 characters, this app offers over 30 different idols and celebrities. You're not stuck with the same boring options.
- 🆓 No Registration Needed – Some apps force you to sign up before you can even see the features. Here, you just download from Google Play and start pranking instantly. That's a huge plus for me.
- 📼 Recording Feature – You can save the entire fake call to your gallery. Prank Call Simulator doesn't let you do that for free. So you can replay the prank and share it on social media without any watermark.
Cons
- 💸 Limited Free Content – Out of the 30 idols, only about 5 are free. The rest require in-app purchases. Fake Call U offers more free characters, which is frustrating.
- 📶 Requires Internet Connection – You can't use the app offline. It streams the video content, so if your signal is weak, the call will buffer and ruin the prank. Similar apps like Fake Call Lite work offline.
- 🎥 Occasional Lag – On older phones, the video simulation can stutter. I've seen it freeze for a second or two. That's a bit of a letdown compared to smoother rivals.
