Prank Call: Fake Video Prank is one of those apps I stumbled upon while looking for ways to mess with my friends. Basically, it simulates a fake video call from a celebrity or a made-up contact, and you can record the other person's reaction when they think it's real. The app first hit the Google Play store a few years ago, and it's also on the App Store if you have an iPhone. It's completely free to download and install, which is great, and you don't need to register an account to use it. There are in-app purchases if you want extra celebrity packs or more prank scenarios, and yeah, it does show some ads between pranks, but they're not too annoying.

When you actually use it, the flow is pretty simple. You pick a prank type, choose who you want to appear on the call, and then hit the fake call button. Once the other person picks up, they see a fake video feed and you can play a pre-recorded voice or just stay silent to see their reaction. A good tip is to use a fake contact name that looks like someone they know, like their boss or an ex, because that makes them more likely to fall for it. Also, be careful about the volume because the app does play a ringing sound, and if it's not loud enough, the prank fails instantly.

Honestly, I've tried similar apps like Fake Call Prank and Prank Video Call Simulator, but this one feels more polished. The video quality during the fake call is surprisingly decent, and the interface on Google Play matches what you get in the app, so there are no surprises. I chose this one over the others mostly because of the variety of prank templates and the fact that you can record the whole thing without needing a second phone. It's not perfect, but for a free download, it delivers exactly what it promises.

Features

  • 📞 The call simulation is the best part. Unlike Fake Call Prank, which often just shows a static image, Prank Call: Fake Video Prank plays a looping video that actually moves, making the whole thing look way more convincing. The other person sees a full-screen video that mimics a real incoming call from a famous face or a custom contact you've added yourself.
  • 🎬 The recording feature is built in and works without any extra apps. Some similar apps on Google Play require you to screen record separately, but here, you just hit a button and the app saves the prank video right to your gallery. That's a huge time saver when you want to share the reaction instantly.
  • 📢 The voice changer is built into the prank setup. You can alter your voice to sound like a robot, a squirrel, or even a deep movie trailer guy. I don't see that level of detail in most other prank apps, and it really takes the joke to another level.
  • 🔔 The timing control is actually reliable. You can set the fake call to ring after 5 or 10 seconds, which gives you time to hand your phone to the victim or turn on the camera. It's a small thing, but it makes the prank feel smoother than in other apps where the call rings instantly and you lose the surprise.

Pros

  • 👍 The app is lightweight. It doesn't eat up storage or drain your battery like some other prank simulators I've had. It loads fast and doesn't lag during the fake call, which is crucial because a pause would immediately ruin the illusion.
  • 👍 It has a great selection of free celebrity videos. Most apps on Google Play force you to pay for the fun stuff, but here, you get a decent number of famous faces right after you install the app, without spending a dime.
  • 👍 The custom contact feature works flawlessly. You can add a fake name and photo, so if you're pranking someone who doesn't care about celebrities, you can make it look like their neighbor or a family member is calling, which is way more effective.

Cons

  • 👎 The ads do pop up at the worst moments sometimes. Right after the prank ends and you're about to show the victim the recording, an ad can cover the screen, which kills the flow. It's not as bad as some free apps, but it's still noticeable compared to paid prank apps.
  • 👎 Some of the newer celebrity packs are locked behind a paywall that feels a bit steep. I understand supporting the devs, but the prices on Google Play for these add-ons are higher than what you'd pay for a one-time purchase on other apps like Prank Dial.
  • 👎 The video quality drops if you're on an older phone. On my new device, it looks sharp, but when I tested it on a mid-range Android, the fake video feed got a bit pixelated, which made the prank less believable. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's something to keep in mind.
