Idol Prank Call - Video & Chat, made by LeafMotion Software, is one of those apps that I stumbled upon while scrolling through Google Play one night. It first launched a few years back, and it's available for free on both the Google Play Store and the App Store. The whole idea is simple: you simulate a fake video or voice call from a celebrity or idol, then record the other person's reaction. It's not a real call, obviously, but the app does a decent job of making the screen look like an incoming FaceTime-style call, complete with the idol's photo and name. As of now, it has over a million installs on Google Play, which surprised me because it's not something you hear about every day. Downloading it won't cost you anything, and you don't need to register or create an account to use the basic stuff. That said, there are in-app purchases—like unlocking more idol packs or removing watermarks—and yes, you do get ads popping up fairly often, which is the trade-off for a free app.

Using the app is pretty straightforward. Once you install it, you pick an idol from the list, choose whether you want a video or voice call simulation, and then hit the fake call button. The screen switches to a “ringing” state, and you hand the phone to your friend or family member. The trick is to act casual, like you're expecting the call, so the person on the receiving end thinks it's real. After the “call” ends, you can replay the whole thing and watch their reaction. My tip would be to use it with someone who doesn't know the app exists—that's where the fun really is. Also, if you don't want the app's logo showing up on the fake call screen, you'll need to spend a few bucks on the premium version, which also removes ads.

Compared to similar apps like Fake Call Prank or Prank Call Simulator, I actually prefer this one because the idol selection feels more polished, and the video call feature looks way more realistic than the static images used by the others. I've tried a couple of those, and they either crash or look too obviously fake. Idol Prank Call - Video & Chat just feels smoother, and the reactions you get are worth it. It's not perfect, but for a prank app, it does its job well enough that I keep coming back to it.

Features

  • 🎥 The video call simulation is the standout feature here. Unlike Fake Call Prank, which only offers voice calls, this app actually shows a moving video feed of the idol on the screen. It's not a live stream, but it looks real enough to fool someone for a few seconds, and that's all you need for a good prank.
  • 🎙️ The voice call options are recorded by actual voice actors, so the lines feel natural, not robotic. You can pick different scenarios, like a celebrity asking for directions or a fan thanking them for support. Other apps like Prank Call Simulator just use text-to-speech, which sounds off and ruins the illusion.
  • 🎬 You can record the entire prank session through the app itself. When the call ends, you get a playback button, and you can save the video to your gallery. This is huge because other similar apps make you use a separate screen recorder, which often misses the call screen anyway.
  • 🎭 There's a decent library of idols to choose from, including K-pop stars, actors, and even fictional characters. The selection isn't massive, but it's more varied than what I've seen in other apps, where you're stuck with generic names and photos.

Pros

  • 👍 The fake call screen is incredibly convincing. The layout, the timer, the notification bar—it all looks exactly like a real incoming call on my phone. Apps like Fake Call Prank often have a clunky interface that gives it away immediately.
  • 👍 It's lightweight and doesn't eat up battery while running. I've had other prank apps drain my phone in minutes, but this one stays quiet in the background until you actually use it.
  • 👍 The developers actually update it. I've seen new idol packs and bug fixes come through over the months, which is rare for a prank app on Google Play. Most of the others get abandoned after a few weeks.

Cons

  • 👎 The ads are intrusive. Every time you finish a prank, a full-screen video ad pops up, and sometimes they appear right when you're about to press the fake call button. It's annoying enough that I almost uninstalled it once.
  • 👎 The free version only gives you a handful of idols. To unlock the good ones, you either have to watch even more ads or pay real money. Other apps like Prank Call Simulator at least let you customize your own caller name and photo for free.
  • 👎 There's no way to schedule a fake call for later. Some similar apps let you set a timer so it rings at a specific time, but this one forces you to do it manually every time, which limits the prank scenarios.
