I've been using GPS Camera Timestamp & Geotag by Betasoft Mobile for a few months now. It's basically a camera app that lets you stamp photos with the exact date, time, location, and even map coordinates. I first came across it while looking for something reliable to organize travel photos, and it's been around for a few years on the Google Play Store. It's free to download and install, which is great, but there are in-app purchases if you want to remove ads or unlock extra features. You don't need to register or sign up to use the app, which I really appreciate since I hate creating accounts for every little app. It has over 10 million installs on Google Play, so it's pretty popular among people who need geotagging for their photos.

Using the app is straightforward once you get the hang of it. After you download and install it from the Google Play Store, you just open it up and grant location permissions. Then you snap a picture, and the app automatically overlays the timestamp and GPS coordinates onto the image. I usually tweak the stamp format in the settings before I start shooting, since the default might not fit everyone's style. One tip I picked up is to turn on the "battery saving" mode if you're going to be out all day, because the GPS can drain your battery fast if you leave it running. Also, check your date and time settings on your phone first, or the stamp could end up wrong.

Compared to other apps like Timestamp Camera or GeoCam, I stuck with this one because it's simpler. Timestamp Camera has a ton of filters and editing tools that I just don't need, and it feels cluttered. GeoCam is fine but the free version on Google Play is really limited with watermarks. GPS Camera Timestamp & Geotag gives you a clean, no-nonsense interface and the stamps are highly customizable without being overwhelming. I'm not a professional photographer or anything, I just wanted a quick way to tag my hiking photos, and this app does the job without all the extra fluff.

Features

  • 📸 Customizable Stamp Layout - You can move the timestamp and GPS info around the photo, change the font size and color, and even add a custom logo or text. Other apps like Timestamp Camera lock the stamp position in the free version, but here you get full control without paying. It's handy when you don't want the stamp covering something important in the shot.
  • 🗺️ Offline GPS Tagging - This app works without an internet connection. It pulls the coordinates directly from your phone's GPS chip, not from WiFi or mobile data. GeoCam requires an active data connection for accurate location tagging, so this is way better for remote areas where you don't have signal.
  • ⚡ Batch Processing - You can select multiple photos from your gallery and add timestamps or geotags to all of them at once. Timestamp Camera makes you do them one by one unless you pay for the pro version. I use this feature a lot when I come home from a trip and need to tag hundreds of photos quickly.
  • 🔋 Battery Optimization Mode - There's a setting that reduces GPS polling frequency to save battery during long shooting sessions. None of the similar apps I've tried on Google Play offer this kind of fine-tuning, so my phone doesn't die halfway through a hike.

Pros

  • 🌟 No Watermark in Free Version - Unlike GeoCam and Timestamp Camera, the free download of GPS Camera Timestamp & Geotag doesn't force a watermark onto your photos. I can share images directly without having to crop or edit anything out.
  • 🌟 Accurate Map Integration - The app embeds a small map thumbnail in the stamp, not just coordinates. Timestamp Camera only shows text coordinates, which isn't as visual. I like being able to see exactly where I was standing when I took the shot.
  • 🌟 Simple Interface Without Bloat - The app does one thing well and doesn't try to be a full photo editor. Other apps on Google Play have so many features that they lag on older phones, but this one runs smoothly even on my budget device.

Cons

  • 💥 Frequent Ads in Free Version - There are ads that pop up after almost every photo you take, and they get annoying fast. Timestamp Camera has fewer ads in its free version, so I end up closing this app a lot when I'm trying to shoot quickly.
  • 💥 GPS Accuracy Issues Indoors - When I'm inside a building, the location stamp can be way off, sometimes showing a spot blocks away. GeoCam handles indoor GPS better by using WiFi positioning as a backup, which this app doesn't do.
  • 💥 Limited Editing After Capture - Once you take a photo, you can't change the stamp style or remove it without using another app. Timestamp Camera lets you edit the stamp after the shot, which is more flexible when you make a mistake.
  • 💥 No Video Support - This app only works for photos, while GeoCam allows you to add timestamps to videos too. If you're someone who records a lot of footage, you'd need a separate app for that.
