SAKURA School Simulator is a wild, open-world sandbox game that lets you live out all sorts of high school fantasies, or rather, chaotic high school scenarios. It's a pure mobile game available on Android and iOS, meaning you can download the app directly from the Google Play Store or the App Store. It's been a staple on these platforms since its first launch around 2019, and it's racked up over 10 million installs on Google Play alone, which is pretty darn impressive for a niche title like this. The game itself is completely free to download and play, which is a huge plus. However, just like most free-to-play titles on mobile, it does have in-game purchases and in-app ads. The purchases usually range from a few dollars to about $10 for things like removing ads or unlocking exclusive costumes. If you just want to mess around, you can easily ignore the store and still have hours of fun, though you'll definitely get annoyed by a pop-up ad here and there.

The way you play SAKURA School Simulator is what really sets it apart. It's a total sandbox with no clear goals or storyline. You are dropped into a fully-rendered 3D school, along with a massive open town, and you can do pretty much whatever you want. Want to just attend class and try to make friends? Go for it. Want to pick a fight with a bunch of rowdy students, steal a car, and fly a broomstick through the sky? You can do that too. The best part for me is easily the freedom. You can customize your character's look, from hair color to clothes, and even switch between different characters like a gang leader or a magical girl. The controls are also surprisingly tight for a mobile sandbox game; you get a virtual joystick to move around and buttons to interact with objects and people. My favorite thing to do is just to start a massive, silly fight in the school cafeteria and see how long I can survive before the entire student body gangs up on me.

Comparing it to other similar games, SAKURA School Simulator is often called the "GTA for mobile" by its fans, and I see why. It has that same chaotic, do-what-you-want energy, but without the heavy violence or mature themes of the real Grand Theft Auto. In that way, it's way more accessible on Google Play. If you've played other school sims like Yandere Simulator (which is on PC), this is a much less focused but arguably more fun experience. Yandere Sim demands you be a stealthy assassin, while this game just lets you breathe. Another popular alternative is the "High School Simulator" games, but most of those look plain and blocky. SAKURA School Simulator has actual 3D models and a world that feels alive. I'd recommend it because it's one of the few sandbox games on the app store that doesn't try to nickel and dime you for every little thing. You download it, you install it, and you're immediately the star of your own silly, action-packed high school anime episode. It's perfect for short, mindless bursts of fun when you're waiting for a bus or just want to unwind.

Compare this to "My School Life: High School Simulator," which tries to be a more realistic life sim and becomes boring fast because nothing unexpected ever happens. Here, the next five minutes are always a surprise.
Active Modding Community 🌐: The game has a surprisingly robust fan base that creates custom characters, outfits, and even story scenarios you can import. This gives it amazing replay value. You can download user-created anime characters or movie monsters and have them walk around your school.
